Truganina is believed to be named after Truganini, who was the last full-blooded Aboriginal Tasmanian woman. She visited the area for a short time in the 19th century.
Truganina was established as an early settlement in 1836 and was the home of Victoria’s first permanent European settlement. The remains of this settlement were discovered in 1999 and are now part of the Point Cook Coastal Park.
